fonts, sunsets, and my obligation to honor November.

My dear friend Andrew and I were discussing fonts last night via skype. Somehow we got on the subject of how boring Helvetica is....so choosing a font for my new and improved "i'm living in a big city and it's foreign so I have lots of ideas on life and pictures of the sunset," blog has been a difficult decision. And don't for one second think I am being facetious about the amount of sunset photos and life changing "ah ha" moments I am about to share with you all.

I digress ...choosing a font, I had limited options. There is the oldie, but goodie, Times New Roman, which makes me feel like I am back in AP English in high school...so that's a no...surely Arial would be promising...no it's too simple, like the ugly stepsister of Times New Roman, while Georgia is just a sassier version of Times New Roman...so I settled on Verdana. Simply because it sounds like Veranda, and that makes me think of Rue Maclanahan on 'The Golden Girls.' Enough about fonts. Now for some photos of the sky and buildings.

Outside my apartment window in the morning.

Alright so not exactly sunsets, but I have around 3 more months here.

My washing machine sings a song to me when my clothes are done. I am sitting here listening to it sing while eating slices of smoked gouda cheese. Look at that sophistication!

Now for the wordly insight I have gained staring out my window at an alley of large city buildings night after night.

I feel like I am exactly where I need to be. Nothing more, nothing less. I smile when I go to work in the morning and I smile when I fall asleep, and for now, that's all I need.

I love my new family, miss my real family, love my new friends, miss my friends who are elsewhere, and am counting down the days until I feel like it will truly be ok to start decorating my cozy apartment for Christmas. I must honor November, because the Starbucks next door won't. And that folks, is about it.

I think I am going to start a recipe book while I am here....stay tuned for my attempt at Gouda Pear Soup.

Until then....I'll be singing Disney tunes at work and washing machine tunes while at home. dee dee daaa dee doo la la la tra la
